Facts

Troop 307 was founded in 1975 by Lloyd Demmy. Sponsoring was provided by Manheim Rotary Club and the meetings were held at the Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church which Lloyd attended. To this date Troop 307 has continued to be sponsored by the Rotary Club and meets at the same church.

Isaac (Ike) Studholm served as the first Scoutmaster for the troop. Ike led the troop on many events. These include Philmont 1985, Maine 1986, numerous international events, and trips to the National Jamboree just to name a few.

Through the years, Ike helped 3 scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was later awarded the Silver Beaver Award. During his service the troop grew to over 25 Scouts.

After Ike’s departure in 1987 Ed Parido took over as Scoutmaster. Ed was the parent of two sons that were in the troop. He served as Scoutmaster from 1987 until 1991 and was able to award one Eagle Scout during his time.

In 1991 William King assumed the task of Scoutmaster. The troop only had a handful of Scouts at this time. With much effort, the troop got together with Cub Pack 135 and started a new Cub Pack 703. The troop began to grow again over the years and has since reached around 20 members. With the recent loss of both packs Bill has taken on the role as cubmaster in a new Pack 307. Returning a pack that ended in the late 1980’s.

Through Bill’s efforts the troop has attended trips to Canada, Jamboree visitation, Shenandoah National Forest Hike (50 mi), Wyoming Yellowstone Hike (110 mi), Philmont(95mi) and numerous other outings. He is still currently still serving as Scoutmaster and has awarded 14 Eagle Scouts and 9 Palms.
